About this app

Tired of political texts, scam texts and junk messages? TextMeNot is a messaging app for Android that screens them before they reach you. Spam texts go to a Screened tab, not your inbox, and the decision is made on your phone. Nothing you receive is sent to a server.

WHAT IT CATCHES
• Political texts: fundraising asks, campaign surveys, "chip in $5" and "End2End" footers
• Scam texts: toll fees, package holds, bank alerts, prizes, job offers, wrong-number lures
• Junk texts and ads: sales, coupons, home services, anything that says "reply STOP"
• Spam calls: numbers that failed carrier verification, or that sent you junk, are silenced

WHAT IT NEVER TOUCHES
• Texts from your contacts
• Conversations you have replied to
• One-time codes and two-factor texts

HOW IT WORKS
TextMeNot becomes your texting app. It reads each new text on the phone, scores it against patterns that political, scam and junk senders use, and files the junk under Screened with the reasons shown. Nothing is deleted on arrival. Tap Not junk and a sender is never screened again. Screened messages clear themselves after 30 days.

PRICING
Every three months, 20 screened texts and 20 screened calls are free. After that, junk still arrives but is marked "Would be screened" until you pick a plan: monthly, yearly, or five years in one payment. Cancel any time in Google Play.

NOTE ON RCS
Google does not let other apps use RCS chat. While TextMeNot is your messaging app you send and receive SMS and MMS, the same way phones did before RCS. Switching back is one setting in Android.

What’s new

Block a whole number range. On any conversation, inbox row, or screened call, choose "Block all (xxx) xxx-xxxx numbers" to silence every number in that area code and exchange, the way scam call centers rotate through a bank of numbers. You can also type an area code by hand in Settings, Blocked numbers. Contacts and people you have written to are never blocked. Blocking from the inbox list now also moves the latest text to Screened.
