About this app
FirstPage is an app blocker for readers. It locks social media and any other apps you choose, like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X and Reddit, until you've hit your daily reading goal. Read then scroll.
If you pick up your phone to read and end up doomscrolling instead, FirstPage puts the book first. Think of it as an app lock with one key: your reading. Cut your screen time, build a reading habit that lasts, and finish the books you keep meaning to read.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Choose the apps you want locked.
2. Set a daily goal in pages, minutes, or both.
3. Read.
4. When you hit your goal, the apps unlock.
You can also set several reading windows in a day, each with its own goal and an optional reminder when it starts. If you need an app before you're done, you can unlock everything for 10 minutes, up to 3 times a day. And if you want a break from your phone on your own terms, lock yourself out for 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours.
SEE WHAT CHANGED
The stats screen compares your reading time with your time on social apps, by week, month, year or all time. You can see when you read, which days you kept it up, and how often the lock stopped you.
YOUR BOOKS
Import your own EPUB and PDF files, or download free classics from Project Gutenberg inside the app. Queue up the next few books so the next one is ready when you finish. The reader has four themes, four fonts, and adjustable text size and line spacing. You can search inside a book, jump between chapters, and highlight passages in five colors, even across pages.
WORDS
Select a word or sentence to translate it. Save the words you want to remember to your Words list, and tap to hear how they're pronounced.
SPARKS
Sparks are short articles, three to five minutes each, on psychology, history, science, philosophy and more. Each one ends with a few ways to bring the idea up in conversation. Sparks count toward your daily goal, which helps on days when you don't have time for a chapter.
LISTEN
FirstPage can read your books out loud in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese, with voices that run on your phone. Download a voice once and it works offline. The current word is highlighted as it's read, and the page turns on its own. Audio keeps playing in the background, has lock screen controls, and resumes where you left off. Listening does not count toward your reading goal.
QUOTES AND SUMMARIES
FirstPage picks out notable lines from your books and saves them with your highlights and words in one place. Quote picking runs on your phone. You can also ask for a chapter summary. Summaries are made on our server, so the app asks for your permission before the first one.
YOUR BRAIN MASCOT
Your mascot starts as a zombie. As you read and earn XP, it moves through Foggy, Natural and Sharp to Radiant. If you stop reading, or use an unlock, it loses XP. Streaks multiply the XP you earn, and a streak freeze protects your streak if you miss a day (one per week).
FINISHING A BOOK
When you finish, you get a recap of the book with your quotes and takeaways. Rate it, then share a card to Instagram, WhatsApp or X.
