About this app

Guruji Brahmasri Yellamraju Srinivasarao garu was born to Smt. Seetamma and Sri Sundara Rao in Markapuram, Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh, India on 19th of July 1927, corresponding to the Indian calendar's Prabhava, Jyeshtha Purnima - Wednesday. He had his education in Ongole, Guntur and Waltair. He took his M.A. in Telugu from Andhra University. He worked as Lecturer and Head of the dept.Telugu in several government colleges from Anantapuram to Srikakulam. He taught literature to thousands of students in colleges and taught philosophy to several interested people outside the college. He realized that teaching philosophy is his life's mission and retired from service voluntarily in 1982 at Kadapa.

After his retirement, Guruji undertook a more intensive study of advaita literature and started teaching Prastanatraya (Brahma sutras, Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita) with Sankara Bhashya to devoted disciples. He also taught several other texts like Dakshinamurthy Stotra with Manasollasam and Vedanta Panchadasi. He also taught Tripura Rahasyam, Sri Lalita Sahasranama Stotram and Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram in the light of advaita. At the same time he wrote several books bringing out the advaitic truth as enunciated by the great teacher of advaita, Sri Sankaracharya. Guruji has never courted publicity and never sought T.V.channels or large gatherings in open places. Thus his teachings remained confined to close circles of devoted listeners. All his teachings thus happen to be in the form of face to face interaction with a small group sitting around him.

Guruji is ever insistent on instilling in the minds of his disciples the true meaning of advaita and allows no compromise in adherence to Sankaraadvaita. This uncompromising adherence to the true doctrine of advaita may sometimes sound as harshness. But the seeming harshness is part of his eagerness to remove misconceptions in the minds of his dear disciples and of his mission of establishing the true advaitic thought in them with unshaken faith. It is not easy to obviate the several hard hurdles on the way to advaita and one has to be tough in dealing with them. But Guruji's main objective is to see that his disciples understand advaita in its true spirit and have it firmly founded in their minds with unwavering awareness.

Although Guruji has been giving discourses on advaita for over half a century, owing to lack of technological tools his early discourses were not recorded. In 2001 he moved, at the request of his local disciples, to Vijayawada and started giving discourses there on Prastanatraya as well as on works like Sanatsujatiyam and all his discourses have since been recorded.
