It's 3am and you're awake again. You won't text anyone, because what if they're asleep. So you lie there.
Who's Up is a small app that answers one question: is anyone else in my circle awake right now? If someone is, you can call her. If nobody is, nobody's phone made a sound.
FOR MIDLIFE NIGHT WAKING
Perimenopause and menopause night waking is not occasional — it's a pattern, and it is unusually well synchronized. If you're awake at 3am with night sweats or racing thoughts, the odds are good that a friend your age is doing exactly the same thing on the same night. Who's Up simply tells you which one.
It is not a sleep tracker, a symptom diary, or a health app. It doesn't measure anything or advise you about anything. It connects you to a friend.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Add the few people you'd actually want to hear from — your sister, a close friend, someone in another time zone. By contact or phone number. No stranger browsing, no suggested friends.
2. When you're awake, tap once.
3. Every close friend who's also up sees your status. Everyone asleep sees nothing — the notification is passive, silent, lock screen only.
4. A friend who's up appears at the top of your list with a CALL button. One tap opens your dialer.
5. Choose how long your status lasts — 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes — or end it whenever you like.
NOT ANOTHER SOCIAL NETWORK
• No messaging, no chat threads
• No feed, no followers, no likes, no counts
• No strangers — only your existing contacts, and only if they use Who's Up
• No location tracking, ever
QUIET BY DESIGN
Every notification is silent, with no sound and no vibration. Do Not Disturb and Focus modes are respected automatically. You can set quiet hours for a hard blackout, but they're off by default, because the middle of the night is when this matters. Presence, not pressure.
PRIVACY FIRST
• No location tracking, now or ever
• No public profile — you can't be discovered by anyone who doesn't have your number
• Contacts are matched using cryptographic hashing; names and numbers don't leave your phone. The CALL button dials the number already in your own address book.
• Mutual friendship required — no one-way follows
• Block anyone at any time
• Delete your account and your data from inside the app
Being awake at 3am isn't the problem. Being awake at 3am on your own is.
Awake at 3am? See which of your close friends are up too — then call them.
