Each state has different rules and exam questions. Wolfi shows you what you need:

• North Rhine-Westphalia: Pass the dog handling test (mandatory for large dogs)

• Lower Saxony: Pass the dog handler's license test (mandatory for all first-time owners)

• Berlin: Obtain the dog handling test and legally let your dog off-leash

• Hamburg: Dog handler's license for exemption from the leash requirement

• Bremen: Pass the dog handling test (mandatory for everyone from July 2026)

• Other federal states available

Nationwide: Companion dog test (BH/VT) for dog sports and clubs.
