About this app

The app provides all the meteorological data measured by the Vicovaro-Mandela weather station, along with graphs and reports. It also includes a webcam, weather forecasts, a rain radar, and a live map of the Lazio Weather station network.

The reference weather station is a PCE-FWS20 and is located in Mandela—about 3 kilometers from Vicovaro—at 430 meters above sea level, at the headquarters of the Mandela-Cantalupo Civil Protection Volunteers. The installation was made possible thanks to the valuable contribution of the National Association of Retired Firefighters—Volunteering and Civil Protection—Vicovaro Delegation. The monitored area—elevated above the plain immediately below to the southwest, which effectively forms the gateway to the Aniene Valley—is windy, especially during southwest or north-northwest winds. Under these circumstances, gusts of over 100 km/h can be recorded. Furthermore, with the occurrence of temperature inversions (clear skies, low relative humidity, lack of ventilation, and periods of high pressure, especially in winter), it is very likely to observe temperature differences between the aforementioned plain—colder at night—and the installation area—which tends to record lower maximum temperatures due to greater and constant ventilation. The installation was completed with the installation of a webcam, a highly versatile video surveillance camera, resistant to atmospheric agents and offering very satisfactory visual results. A distinctive feature of this webcam is its ease of wireless transmission. In night mode, infrared beams are activated automatically thanks to a twilight sensor located inside the webcam lens. The Vicovaro webcam sends an image every 3 minutes. It is pointed southwest toward the town of the same name.
