This application presents the main surgical instruments, contributes to the learning of Nursing and Medicine students, as well as other professionals in the field of Health. It has a part dedicated to the presentation of the HoLEP procedure and Prostatic Hyperplasia.
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is caused by the growth of a more central portion of the prostate called the transition zone, due to its intimate relationship with the urethra, this growth causes obstruction to the flow of urine. During surgical treatment of this disease, the objective is to remove as much of this portion that causes the obstruction (adenoma) as safely as possible. In the HoLEP technique, the Holmium laser is used to exactly detach the anatomical plane between the diseased portion (adenoma) and the healthy portion (peripheral zone), this is the first great advantage of the method, being able to completely remove the diseased region, avoiding as much as possible the risk of the disease returning, a fact that does not occur, for example, in traditional resection (prostate TUR) and green laser vaporization, in these two methods there are variable amounts of disease residue and higher rates of symptom return.
