About this app

ScreenOff turns your screen dark while the app underneath keeps running: a camera, a recording, navigation, a player or anything else.

Turning the screen off the usual way puts the phone to sleep and stops whatever was open. ScreenOff lays a layer of pure #000000 black over the screen instead. On AMOLED screens black pixels are switched off, so they don't light up, don't wear out and don't heat the phone. The app underneath stays fully in control, including the volume buttons and Bluetooth remotes.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Turn on ScreenOff with the button in the app or the Quick Settings tile.
2. Switch to the app that should keep running.
3. After a moment without a touch the screen goes dark.
4. Tap the screen to take a look. It goes dark again on its own.

Android draws the status bar and the navigation bar above every app, so they stay visible, though very dim. A full-screen mode in the app underneath hides them completely.
