About this app

Astrolab draws a natal chart and reads it the way the classical tradition reads one: essential
dignity first, then the houses, then the aspects. It is built for people who want the technique
itself rather than a daily horoscope.

Everything is computed on your device from analytic ephemerides. There is no data file to
download, no account, and no network call - the app works in aeroplane mode, on the day you
install it and in ten years' time.

THE CHART
• A drawn chart wheel with the Ascendant on the left, houses, and aspect lines whose colour and
weight carry the meaning: a tighter orb draws a stronger line.
• Sun to Pluto, the lunar nodes, Chiron, and Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta.
• Seven house systems: whole sign (the default), equal, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Campanus,
Placidus and Koch.
• All five essential dignities - domicile, exaltation, triplicity, term and face - with Lilly's
scoring and the almuten of a degree.
• Aspects you choose, at orbs you set, including the minor aspects.
• Tap any glyph for that body's own reading: sign, house, dignity and every aspect it makes.
• Lords of the chart: the lord of the Ascendant, of the Midheaven, of employment, and the light
of the sect.

TIMING
• Annual profections with the lord of the year, plus the profected month and day.
• Transits: Jupiter and Saturn against the significators of standing, and the whole sky against
your whole chart, with the orb, whether the contact is applying or separating, and the date it
perfects.
• Sect, the seven Hermetic lots, and zodiacal releasing from Fortune and from Spirit, with the
peak periods and the loosings of the bond.
• Firdaria, decennials, planetary periods and Ptolemy's seven ages of man.
• Solar arc directions in Noel Tyl's form, with Ebertin's midpoint pictures and a chronological
directory of every hard contact of a life.
• Secondary progressions: the progressed chart, the angles, ingresses, contacts to the natal
chart, and the progressed lunation cycle.
• Primary directions to the angles, under Ptolemy's key or Naibod's.
• Solar returns, drawn as a chart.
• A timeline that puts every technique on one axis, so you can see which of them agree.

ASTROCARTOGRAPHY
• Planetary lines across a world map - culminating, anti-culminating, rising and setting.
• Ranked places for career, partnership, home and belonging, or vitality, each read on the angle
its own tradition uses.
• Parans, and the cities each line actually runs near.

WRITTEN MATERIAL
Original articles on what a natal chart is, whole-sign houses, essential dignity, the lunar nodes,
the house systems, midpoints, solar arc, zodiacal releasing and the planetary periods - plus
reference tables for the planets, the signs and the aspects.

ACCURACY
Positions are checked against JPL Horizons: the Sun to about 1.4 arcseconds, the Moon to 2
arcminutes, and the planets to under 4.2 arcminutes at worst. That is a fifteenth of a degree -
invisible in a sign, invisible in a house, and small next to the uncertainty in most recorded
birth times.

Enter the birth time exactly as the clock read it. The app resolves the historical time zone and
summer-time rule for that place in that year, and tells you what it did with it.
