About this app

FOREVER. A virtual monument to Carlos von den Hügeln is a geo-based augmented reality project in the public space of Vienna, Saarbrücken, Kassel, Venice and New York.

Carlos of the Hills was a French bulldog who gained fame as an artist while she was still alive. His work as a sculptor and performer is considered exemplary for Animal Made and Interspecies Art. For this he receives a monument in Augmented Reality.

For this multi-part digital monument, his cardboard objects were placed oversized in the extended virtual space and can be viewed via smartphone using this specially developed app. In ten locations that were important for Carlos von den Hügel's life and work, his works will immortalize him forever in augmented reality.

Lena Lieselotte Schuster's project is a collaboration with the Association for Cross-Species Art and Barbara Herold.

In Vienna, a 3.5 km long promenade leads along six AR objects across Brigittenau and Leopoldstadt, the former walking routes of Carlos von den Hügel. At the same time, AR objects are being erected at four other international art locations: the Giardini della Biennale in Venice, the Karlsaue in Kassel, the HBKsaar in Saarbrücken and the MoMA sculpture garden in New York.

The project is supported by KÖR Art in Public Space Vienna, City of Vienna, Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport, District Culture Promotion Brigittenau and District Culture Promotion Leopoldstadt
