About this app

SCANNER Lens is a research participation app developed by Deakin University for invited participants enrolled in approved public health and social science research studies.

The app enables participants to securely complete study activities and contribute digital content, including screen recordings, to help researchers understand online environments and digital experiences. Participants may receive study instructions, complete research tasks and submit study data directly through the app.

Privacy and data handling

Recordings are stored within the SCANNER Lens app and are not saved to the device’s photo library, gallery or camera roll.

Recordings remain accessible within the app while the participant completes the relevant study activities. They are automatically removed from the app after the study tasks have been completed.

Submitted recordings are securely transferred using encrypted communications to Deakin University-managed research systems. Access is limited to authorised members of the relevant research team and other persons authorised under the arrangements for the relevant study.

• Does not use participant information for advertising or commercial profiling
• Does not sell participant information
• Does not share participant information with third parties for their own marketing purposes

Research participation

SCANNER Lens is a research tool and is not a commercial product. Studies involving human participants must have appropriate research ethics and governance arrangements.

The research team responsible for each study provides participants with study-specific information about participation, consent, withdrawal, data handling and privacy protections.
