LocalWave is the easiest way to discover and listen to Australia's community and regional radio stations. Browse a live map of 450+ AM, FM and DAB+ radio stations across every state and territory, from inner-city Sydney to remote outback broadcasters, and tap any pin to start streaming.
Built for Australians, travellers and anyone curious about the country's incredible community radio scene. No accounts. No ads. No subscription tiers. Just free, local Australian radio.
FEATURES
• MAP-FIRST BROWSE: every Australian community radio station plotted by location. Pan, zoom and tap a pin to listen.
• 450+ STATIONS: a curated database of AM, FM and DAB+ community and regional radio broadcasters, sourced from radio-browser.info and ACMA's Licensed Broadcasting Transmitter Data.
• NEARBY: find the radio stations broadcasting closest to you. Coarse, foreground-only location; you can decline and the rest of the app still works.
• FAVOURITES: heart a station to keep it one tap away.
• BACKGROUND PLAYBACK: keep listening when the screen is off, with full lock-screen and notification controls.
• ANDROID AUTO READY: built on Media3 so audio behaves cleanly in the car and across Bluetooth.
• SLEEP TIMER: drift off to your favourite community station and LocalWave stops the audio for you.
• SEARCH: find stations by name, callsign, frequency or city.

LocalWave only requests what it needs to play radio: network access, foreground media playback service, notifications for the playback controls, wake lock to keep audio running, and optional coarse location for the Nearby tab.
