South Indian classical music (aka Carnatic music) is based on melody — called raga. There are several hundred ragas in Carnatic music. You can sample over 100 ragas in this App. You can change the raga by shaking your mobile!
Many listeners like to guess the raga and so typically the performer will announce it after performing the song. In that vein, I will display the raga name 45 seconds into the song. This app can also be used as a learning tool to identify ragas.
In addition to vocal music, which takes prime position in Carnatic music, this selection includes instrumental music — violin, veena, chitraveena, mandolin, sarod, flute, clarinet, nadhaswaram and saxophone.
