The DLI Simulator is a plant cultivation support app that allows you to check the light intensity of plant grow lights not just "roughly," but based on PPFD, DLI, irradiation distance, and irradiation time.
When growing plants indoors, such as agaves, succulents, caudiciforms, houseplants, vegetables/herbs, and fruit trees, what's important isn't how bright the light appears (LUX). Understanding the intensity of light reaching the plant's leaves (PPFD) and the total amount of light received per day (DLI) makes it easier to consider the appropriate light environment for the plant and its growth stage.
"I don't know how far away to place the light."
"I'm unsure how many hours to set the irradiation time."
"I want to check if the current light intensity is insufficient or too strong."
This tool helps you organize these indoor cultivation questions based on numerical data.
■ Main Features
・Calculate DLI from PPFD
By inputting the PPFD measured at the leaf surface and the daily irradiation time, you can check the daily cumulative light intensity (DLI) in mol/m²/day. DLI is calculated as "PPFD × Irradiation Time × 0.0036" and serves as an estimate of the total amount of light a plant receives per day.
* Simulate Irradiation Distance
Based on the standard PPFD and standard distance, you can check the estimated PPFD and DLI when the light installation distance is changed. You can compare adjustments such as moving the light closer or further away, and increasing or decreasing the irradiation time, numerically.
* Check Recommended DLI for Each Plant
By selecting a target plant from the plant library, you can reflect the recommended DLI guideline in the settings. Furthermore, by switching the growth stage, you can check whether the current settings are insufficient, appropriate, or excessive compared to the guideline.
* Compare Multiple Lights Under the Same Conditions
You can compare multiple plant grow lights under the same installation distance and irradiation time. Since you can compare PPFD and DLI in a list and graph, it is useful when you want to organize the characteristics of the lights you are using or when you want to review the placement and lighting time. You can also add and compare your existing lights.
■ How to Use
1. Select the plant you are growing and check the guideline DLI. 2. Directly input the PPFD value, or set the illumination distance using the reference PPFD and reference distance.
3. Adjust the daily illumination time.
4. Compare the displayed DLI with the recommended range and review the light distance and illumination time.
■ Recommended for:
* Those who want to grow agaves and succulents while considering etiolation and leaf burn.
* Those who want to understand the appropriate light intensity for indoor cultivation of caudex plants and shrubs.
* Those concerned about leaf burn or insufficient light for houseplants.
* Those who want to review the installation distance and illumination time of plant grow lights.
* Those who want to compare multiple lights under the same conditions.
* Those who want to start creating easily reproducible cultivation environments using PPFD and DLI.
■ Notes on Use
The calculation results and recommended values in this app are guidelines for considering the cultivation environment. Many factors, not just light, are involved in plant growth, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, watering, soil, and fertilizer. Please observe the condition of your plants daily and adjust according to your environment.
