The Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology (SBPT) is a non-profit medical entity, affiliated to the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), which brings together respiratory health professionals to disseminate science with social responsibility and fight for medical qualifications.
SBPT develops projects in partnership with AMB, Ministry of Health, Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), state Pulmonology societies and foreign Respiratory Medicine associations, such as ALAT, ATS, ERS, ACCP, APRS, SPP and SEPAR.
Our commitments
Value national scientific production, with the edition of the Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology.
Offer updated knowledge to health professionals at national and international scientific events.
Inform the population, organizing campaigns in favor of respiratory health.
Fight for quality teaching in Pulmonology, offering continuing education and distance learning programs for students and health professionals, monitoring and standardizing medical residency programs.
Defend pulmonologists and their patients, fighting with public authorities for ethical working conditions.
What we do?
Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology: bimonthly scientific magazine, the main publication of the specialty.
Continuing Education Program (PEC): face-to-face update in Pulmonology, offered by SBPT in cities where scientific activity is not frequent.
Distance Learning Platform (EaD SBPT): refresher courses in Pulmonary Function (Basic and Advanced); Image; Sleep Medicine; Asthma for Primary Care; between others.
Brazilian Pulmonology Congress: SBPT's main event, with an extensive scientific schedule, international guests and election of the Board of Directors. It is carried out every two years, in even years.
National Update Courses in Pulmonology and Pediatric Pulmonology: classes prepared by the SBPT Scientific Committees annually, on the Rio-São Paulo axis.
National Course on Interstitial Diseases: held every two years.
Brazilian Congress on Asthma, COPD and Smoking: organized in odd-numbered years.
Specialist Title Test: in partnership with AMB.
History
“On October 18, 1978, the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology was born. Born, perhaps, is not the most appropriate verb. It is, in reality, the sum of the experience, successes, struggles and greatness achieved by the two entities that, in the past, brought together specialists from the lungs of our land” – Dr. Mário Rigatto, vice-president of SBPT for two years 1977/1978.
1937 – Foundation of the Brazilian Federation of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases.
1974 – Foundation of the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology.
1978 – Unification between the two associations to found the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Phthisiology (SBPT).
