About this app

Syabra is a messenger where private messages are protected with end-to-end encryption. Messages are encrypted on your device and decrypted on your recipient's device. The keys never leave your phone: the server stores and transmits an opaque block that cannot be read.

But not everything is encrypted, and we talk about this openly—here and in the app itself.

WHAT'S IN THIS VERSION
• Private messages with end-to-end encryption
• Encrypted groups with up to 256 members: roles, adding and excluding members, and ownership transfer
• Closed and open groups—without member limits and no encryption
• Channels, closed and public: the owner and administrators write, and everyone else reads. A public channel can be opened on the web even without logging in. Channels are not encrypted.
• "Favorites" — encrypted notes to yourself.
• Syabr, the AI assistant: everyone has their own private conversation with him, and they are not encrypted.
• One-on-one audio and video calls.
• Image attachments — only in encrypted conversations, up to 8 MiB per file.
• 24-hour Stories: visible to those with whom you have a shared conversation.
• Voice messages — up to five minutes.
• Notifications: the device collects the name and text; the server does not know them.
• Light and dark themes.
• Interface in seven languages: Belarusian, Russian, English, Spanish, Arabic, Thai, and Indonesian.

WHERE IS ENCRYPTION AND WHERE IS IT NOT?
Encrypted: personal messages, encrypted groups, "Favorites," and their attachments.
Not encrypted: closed and open groups, channels, and conversations with Syabr. These messages are stored on the server in clear text, and it's technically possible to read them if necessary. "Closed" means the conversation can't be accessed by others, but it doesn't mean it's encrypted. The app displays the type of conversation you're in next to the input field as you type, not just in the settings.
The text of your conversation with Syabr is also sent to the model provider, who prepares the response. Nothing else is sent to them: no name, no phone number, not a single message from other conversations.

WHAT ENCRYPTION DOESN'T HIDE
We don't promise anonymity: a phone number is required to log in. The server sees who sent messages to whom and when, the size of the encrypted block, when the device was online, the composition of groups, and for calls, who called whom and how long the call lasted. If a direct connection isn't established, the call will go through our relay: it can't hear the conversation, but it can see the addresses of the participants and the volume of data transferred. All of this is acknowledged in the privacy policy: siabra.by/privacy.html

LIMITS THAT ARE MORE HONEST TO BE DISCLAIMED IMMEDIATELY
• Group membership is confirmed by the server, not encryption—check the list yourself.
• Anyone removed from the group will decrypt messages they've already received: they legally obtained the keys to these while in the group. They are prevented from receiving new messages by thread rotation.
• "Favorites" are encrypted with the keys of this device: old notes won't open on another device.
• There are no calls in groups and channels; you can't call Syabra.
Personal correspondence with end-to-end encryption. Keys are stored only on your devices.
