Convert liquid height to volume and weight and back with confidence. Built by a professional engineer with care and precision.
FEATURES
• Cylindrical tank support with many head types
Calculate horizontal and vertical cylindrical tanks, including bullet tanks, with hemispherical, 2:1 ellipsoidal / elliptical, torispherical / ASME F&D / flanged and dished, flat, conical, frustum conical / truncated cone, and frustum spherical heads
• Sphere, rectangular, and regular prism tank support
Also calculate spherical tanks, rectangular / box tanks, and regular polygon prism tanks. Rectangular and regular prism tanks support flat, pyramid, and frustum pyramid ends
• Strapping tables and charts
Generate level-to-volume tables and charts for your tank at your choice of height or volume increment for calibration or inventory, and use in Excel or other systems
• Convert liquid height to volume, weight, and back
Enter liquid level / liquid height / dip or fill percentage to calculate liquid volume, vapor space, total tank volume, liquid weight, freeboard, and max fill height
• Surface area results included
Calculate wetted area, liquid surface area, and other geometry-dependent area results useful for engineering and process work
• Advanced tank configuration and sizing
Advanced mode supports custom end geometry, including two different heads on the same tank, or a head on one side and a flat end on the other where applicable. You can also size a tank from relationships such as L/D + V, V + L, and many more. Customize head depth, dish radius factor, knuckle radius factor, and frustum tip dimensions where applicable
• Tank construction modeling
Model single-wall or double-wall tanks with shell, annular insulation, outer shell, external insulation, and cladding. Useful for LPG tanks, propane tanks, butane tanks, ammonia tanks, insulated storage tanks, LNG tanks, and other double-wall or cryogenic tank constructions
• Weight and hydrostatics
Calculate liquid weight, dry weight, operating weight, full weight, and liquid static head. Add fluid density and tank elevation for more realistic results
• Live diagrams for many tank types
See live 2D tank diagrams with the geometry and liquid level updating as you edit inputs, making it easier to verify geometry and fill visually
• Built-in material database
Search a built-in material database for tank shell and insulation layers to more accurately calculate the weight of the tank and its liquid
• Save tank geometries for reuse
Save your input geometry, reopen it later, and enter a new liquid height whenever needed
• Shareable reports
Generate shareable calculation reports with tank geometry, fill data, volumes, areas, weights, hydrostatics, and strapping data for your records and reporting workflows
• Common engineering units included
Supports common tank volume units such as gallons, US gallons, barrels / bbl, liters / litres, cubic meters / m3, cubic feet / ft3, and more. Supports common tank length units such as inches / in, feet / ft, millimeters / mm, centimeters / cm, and meters / m
• Built for engineering work
Customizable units, significant figures, light and dark themes, multiple languages, and local calculations that work offline instantly
VALIDATION
All formulas have been validated across a wide range of inputs against tank shapes built in CAD software. Exact analytical formulas are used where available. Where closed-form solutions do not exist, high-precision numerical methods are used. Citations included.
WHY THIS APP EXISTS
The developer was shocked to see approximations used widely for simple tank geometries. Exact methods were generally available in literature, but using them correctly was often tedious and error-prone. This app was built to make rigorous tank calculations more accessible and to further the engineering profession.
