Heritage Guide puts all 13,554 places in the Canadian Register of Historic Places in your pocket: every building, site and district Canada’s governments have formally recognized, each in the register’s own words.
EVERY PLACE, WORD FOR WORD
Read each record as the register wrote it: its description, why it matters and the features that carry its heritage value, with the register’s photographs and their credits. Where the register has no photograph, a Wikimedia Commons one is shown and clearly labelled Enhanced.
ONE MAP OF THE COUNTRY
See every recognized place on one map, coloured by the order of government that recognized it. Slide through time to see what stood here by 1867, or any year since 1600.
WALK A TOWN
Take a guided walk through a historic town, or a themed walk: Gothic Revival, merchants’ houses, places still in their original use. Your phone shows the next stop on the lock screen and can read each place’s record aloud as you arrive.
LOOK CLOSER
At each place, “Look for these” lists the features the register names, so you can find them for yourself. Retake the register’s photograph from the same spot and compare then and now.
217 COLLECTIONS
Lighthouses, covered bridges, the fur trade, buildings that moved, Acadian heritage and many more, grouped by style, material, community, faith, work and story.
YOUR JOURNAL AND PASSPORT
Stamp the places you visit, keep notes, photographs and voice notes, and make lists to plan a trip or share with friends. Your journal stays on your phone.
MADE FOR THE ROAD
The whole register comes with the app, so you can browse and search without a connection. Save a town’s maps and records before you go. Home-screen widgets show a place of the day and what was recognized on this day.
