About this app

Since 1983, the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology has delivered to its community a book addressing a relevant topic, chosen by its Deliberative Council, four years before its release.
The scientific importance of this work can be easily gauged by whoever scrolls through the index of the two volumes you have before your eyes. A plurality of colleagues from all over the country dedicated themselves to building this work, which, unlike others, no less relevant, is the result of a democratic choice: CBO members propose and vote in the area of ophthalmology that will be the object of study in a future publication. Therefore, the book, called CBO's Official Theme, always carries, in addition to the unquestionable scientific aspect and the democratic aspect mentioned, the multiplicity, the plurality of views and approaches that only an impartial and grandiose publication like this can have.
Thus, once again, in such a special year, in which our CBO celebrates its 80th anniversary, we are presented with a work of extreme relevance for the Specialty. One no, rather two, since the theme book of the 2021 Brazilian Congress of Ophthalmology was divided into two publications and includes two very important themes: Oculoplastic and Ocular Oncology.
In addition to the relevance of the themes, we have the engagement of colleagues who dedicated themselves to the preparation of the publication: the volume on oculoplastics was drafted by André Borba and Roberto Murillo Limongi, two renowned names for their experience in the field. The publication, which had the collaboration of no less than 170 authors, was structured in 11 sections: Surgical Anatomy of the Ocular Appendices; Semiology and Propedeutics; Basic Techniques and Anesthesia in Oculoplastic; Eyelids; Lacrimal pathways; Orbit; Anophthalmic cavity; Surgical Treatment of Orbito-Pilpebral Tumors; Oculoplastic Emergencies and Traumas; Periocular Aesthetics and Complications and Unsatisfactory Outcomes in Oculoplastic Surgery. Twenty-one colleagues acted as coordinators and were essential for us to reach such a rich result.
The volume dedicated to Ocular Oncology was reported by Zélia M. Correa and Eduardo F. Marback. With them, 07 coordinators and 95 authors acted, building a publication of excellence, covering all aspects of the area, divided into the following sections: Introduction to Terminology and Diagnostic Bases in Ocular Oncology, Tumors (eyelid, orbit, surface ocular and uvea) and Therapeutic Principles in Oncology.
On behalf of the CBO Board, and on my own, I would like to personally thank each colleague who took the time and care to share their knowledge with us. Given the impossibility of listing here all, who are identified in the index and in their texts, I express our recognition here.
I share with all colleagues who consult this book, the certainty that they will have an excellent reading.
