The Blue Schools app is a self-paced learning platform for school teachers in Cambodia. It is based on the Blue Schools Concept of the Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium, and covers water, sanitation and hygiene as well as waste management and environment in schools.
The Blue Schools approach aims to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities in schools, and to educate students on the importance of good hygiene practices and managing their environment (waste management, school gardens). The app is a valuable resource for school teachers who want to learn more about the Blue Schools approach and how to implement it in their own schools.
The app is divided into different modules, each of which covers a specific topic related to the Blue Schools approach. The modules are broken down into videos, slide shows and interactive exercises (drag and drop and matching) and chapter quizzes to help teachers learn the material in a fun and interactive way. Caritas Switzerland has been implementing the Blue School approach in Cambodia since 2018, with the support of the Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium. The approach has been successful in improving water and sanitation conditions in schools, and has been applied in 54 schools to date. The majority of these schools have progressed to two stars or above within the WinS.
The app is mobile friendly and accessible on almost any device with an internet connection. This allows teachers to access the app from anywhere, at any time. Plus, the app was built on the latest version of Moodle and also has a forum where teachers can ask questions and get help from other teachers and experts.
