The USB Indoor Navigation system complements the existing analog signage on the University Hospital Basel campus.
It provides up-to-date wayfinding from "home to appointment" by using Google Maps outside the hospital grounds and a simplified floor plan within the "Health Campus" to guide users to their registration points. It also directs patients and visitors from the USB campus to external locations throughout the city.
In addition to patient-related destinations, service and university-related destinations can be entered via text or by scanning a code, such as cafés, ATMs, the chapel, or lecture halls. The app uses GPS and Bluetooth beacons within the buildings for location tracking.
To ensure accessibility, the app avoids stairs, unsuitable elevators, and unsuitable routes.
The app is currently localized in German and English.
