Mavena is a signal-bridge composer for the International Code of Signals — the
flag language 🗣️ ships have used at sea for over a century. Pull flags from the
bin, bend them onto the halyard from the top down, and watch 👀 a live reading
strip tell you exactly what the bridge on the other ship would hear.

THE HALYARD — compose and share 🤝
Bend on any of the 41 pieces of bunting: 26 letter flags, 10 numeral pennants,
3 substitutes, and the answering pennant. The reading strip re-resolves every
time ⏱️ you add, reorder, or strike a flag. A lone Oscar flares red and reads MAN
OVERBOARD. Add a second flag and the whole meaning collapses into spelled
letters, exactly as it does at sea. Mavena will refuse to file an illegal hoist
— mix 🥣 letters and numerals in one group and it tells you why ❓ the bridge cannot
read it.

Behind the reading strip is a real grammar engine, not a lookup table 📋. It
handles single-flag whole meanings, letter spelling, genuine two-flag groups,
numeral groups in Figures / Bearing / Time ⏱️ / Date modes, the substitute repeat
rule, the tackline that fences one hoist from the next, and the answering
pennant riding at the dip until you close it up.

When a hoist is clean 🧼, export 📤 it as a gold-hairlined Art-Deco signal card —
saved to your gallery 🖼️ and filed in your Bunting Locker.

THE CODE BOOK 📚 — 64 entries
Every letter, numeral, substitute and answering pennant, plus 24 real two-flag
groups. Each entry carries its meaning, its phonetic name, what it says when
flown alone, how it is used, and cross-references to related signals. Star your
favourites and load any entry straight into the Halyard.

THE SIGNAL SCHOOL — 15 lessons
An order-gated ladder from reading a lone flag through spelling, whole meanings,
numerals, bearings, times, and the code and answering pennants. Later lessons
hand you the Halyard and grade what you bend on with the same engine that runs
the composer — no multiple choice, you fly the actual hoist.

THE BUNTING LOCKER — your card vault
Eight worked hoists to study 📖, including Nelson's Trafalgar telegraph and the NC
distress signal, alongside every card you have filed yourself. Attach a
reference photo 📸 to any card — a real flag flying, a vessel, a printed card.

THE BRIDGE TRIALS — 24 challenges
Three tiers, Ordinary Seaman through Chief Yeoman. Each trial gives you a
plain-language 🗣️ order — "fly the urgent MAN OVERBOARD", "warn a vessel she is
running into danger" — and you pass only when the resolver reads your hoist back
as exactly that, unambiguously. Clear a tier to unlock 🔓 the next.
