▶ HOW TO PLAY
The first player dealt an Ace becomes the Hakem and chooses the trump suit after seeing their first cards. Everyone is dealt 13 cards. You must follow the led suit if you can; if you can’t, you may play any card — including a trump. The highest trump wins the trick, or the highest card of the led suit if no trump was played. Whoever wins a trick leads the next one.

First side to win 7 of the 13 tricks wins the hand. Win the hand and your team scores a point (or 2–3 points for a sweep). The first side to reach 7 points wins the match. If the Hakem’s team loses the hand, the Hakem passes to the next player.

Whether you grew up playing Hokm with family and friends, or you’re discovering this Persian classic for the first time — deal yourself in, call the Hokm, and enjoy!
