Gold in the ground in Britain belongs to the Crown under the Mines Royal, and the land it sits on belongs to somebody. Every site carries its own permission line, and the built-in legal guide covers Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland - Crown consent, permit schemes, protected rivers and where panning is simply not allowed.
