The Sunnis affirm the merit of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), as articulated in the Holy Qur'an, revealed by the All-Wise, All-Praiseworthy to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). They also affirm all authentic accounts of their merits from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whether this merit is general or specific. They affirm and firmly believe in all of them, and submit to them for those pure ones whom Allah chose to be companions of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and whom He created in the greatest manner to be ministers to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to carry His message after him, and to convey it to all people on this earth. According to the Sunnis, all the Companions are just, due to Allah's praise and recognition of them. The meaning of justness is that they are just in their religion and in what they narrate and transmit of the Shari'ah, and that they are free from falsehood and fabrication. This is what the imams of Islam and the scholars of hadith among the Sunnis—past and present—have agreed upon. This book explains the beliefs of the early Sunnis regarding the noble Companions and refutes the doubts raised by those who cast doubt on the Companions, whether they are Shi'ites, Khawarij, or others.
