About this game

This project aims to promote the Neapolis Nabeul archaeological site, as well as the knowledge, know-how, and practices related to the production of garum, a condiment in the form of a sauce, made from fish fermented in salt under the effect of the sun.

Indeed, the site dates back to the 5th century BC, and reached its peak in the second half of the 1st century AD, at the time of the Roman Empire, following the construction of salting facilities. Thanks to the local geographical context, these ancient facilities made it possible to develop activities related to the exploitation of the sea. They encouraged the growth of the salting industry, and the production and trade of garum.

In this case, the Neapolis experience project will contribute to raising awareness among visitors of the value of this heritage, by offering an immersive experience allowing them to project themselves into this historical period. Through the digital restitution of the salting factory, visitors will be able to explore the atmosphere of the places as they were before, by engaging them in gamified discovery and learning activities.

This experience will then have an educational purpose, allowing visitors to learn the circumstances, and the method of production of garum, as well as the artifacts used in the manufacturing process. It will also allow us to understand the way of thinking of the economic actors of this period, and the importance of this know-how in the economy of ancient Africa.

The project focuses on raising awareness, transmission, and dissemination of tangible and intangible heritage through an innovative approach that relies on new technologies, namely: augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mobile applications, and IOT, to offer a fun and cognitive experience, in addition to the production of an educational wooden model.
