About this app

With this app your smartphone becomes a real measuring instrument with accuracy at the level of the best professional tools. The main function of the ENEA Mobile Sun Compass is to provide the geographic North by means of the calculation of the position of the Sun and the measurement of the line of sight of the Sun through different methods, with an accuracy ranging from a few degrees, if the Sun is hand-pointed, up to 1 / 10th of a degree if using a professional kit.
This app incorporates an internally developed algorithm that provides the data of the position of the Sun with an uncertainty of less than an arcminute. The calculation of the position of the Sun, combined with the measurement of the Sun's line of sight with respect to the reference system of the mobile phone, guarantees an accurate determination of the geographic North.
The ENEA Mobile Sun Compass has other functions, all derived from the calculation of the geographic North:
- Installation of a parabolic antenna, to target a satellite for television broadcasts
- Determination of the orientation of a wall
- Installation of a solar or photovoltaic panel ensuring maximum solar light collection efficiency
- Determination of the angle to follow to reach a given place
- Measurement of magnetic declination, i.e. the difference between magnetic North and geographic North (if the mobile phone is equipped with a magnetic sensor)
- Orientation on UTM grating
In addition to the orientation functions, the ENEA Mobile Sun Compass provides many data relating to the ephemeris, such as elevation, declination and azimuth of the Sun, true time of the place, true time of the zone, time of sunrise and sunset, azimuth of the Sun at sunrise and at sunset, days that have passed since January 1st of year 1 and Julian day. All previous values can also be calculated for a location, date and time other than the current ones. It is also possible to know on what day and at what time the passage of the Sun will occur for a certain height and for a certain azimuth. For each app function there is an information page that can be reached by pressing a special button on the top menu and you can download the user manual at the site http://www.gramlot.it/sunpass/manual/.
This app has been realized in compliance with accessibility laws. The accessibility declaration can be found at https://form.agid.gov.it/view/389fa752-3d86-4a0f-82b0-50a2434cb9ae
