The official Te Araroa app, from the Te Araroa Trust. Free.
Every topographic map, hut, campsite and trail note for the whole 3,000 km between Cape Reinga and Bluff is stored on your phone before you leave. No signal. No data. No subscription.
Te Araroa is New Zealand's national trail, and this is the app for walking it — whether you are thru-hiking the length of the country or out for a weekend section.
WHAT YOU GET
OFFLINE TOPO MAPS OF THE WHOLE TRAIL
The full New Zealand topographic map set downloads into the app. Pan and zoom the Richmonds or the Ureweras with your phone in aeroplane mode. Contours, huts, rivers and backcountry routes, with no connection anywhere.
THE RIDGELINE
The elevation profile of the entire trail, not just the section you are standing on. Scrub forward to see the climb that is waiting for you, with huts and campsites drawn on the profile where they actually fall.

ABOUT THE DOWNLOAD SIZE
The maps are large because the whole country is in them. That is the point. Once they are downloaded, nothing about navigation needs a connection.

This app is not a safety tool. It does not replace proper safety equipment, including notes, maps and a personal locator beacon, and it is not a substitute for preparing properly for Te Araroa. Being prepared is your responsibility.
