About this game

The educational video game, developed by the Institute of Housing, Urbanism and Construction (IVUC) and the Laboratory of Software and Interactive Technologies (LABSTI) of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the University of San Marín de Porres (USMP) in Lima.
It received support from the project “Innovation and promotion of bamboo through action-research processes for resilient agriculture in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru”, financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development - IFAD and executed by the International Bamboo Organization and Rattan - INBAR.
Video game, this one has been designed for a target audience of boys and girls from 5 to 10 years old, who still do not have a predetermined concept about bamboo.
The game consists of riding a bamboo bicycle on "cross" tracks. If the player manages to finish the race in the allotted time, they can proceed to the next level. In addition, along the track, the player will be able to find trophies that are bamboo toys, as well as accumulate “bamboo points” that will allow them to acquire new bamboo bicycles with a higher level of innovation and performance.
The idea is that each level becomes increasingly difficult and shows an increasingly technological and innovative use of bamboo. The race tracks are set in countries of the Andean region where the bamboo resource is found, such as Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. Each one is a pretext to teach various species of bamboo, different landscapes, activities and infrastructures related to the transformation and use of bamboo.
In this way, players not only sharpen their motor skills, but also travel in a world that tells them about the benefits of bamboo and its importance for our Andean countries.
Through the development of this video game, the character of Kengko has been created. a bamboo robot that was born in Peru to inform and educate young and old in a playful way about the benefits of this plant and about the great diversity of uses that it can be given. Its name means bamboo in the Awajun language. Its presence seeks to link bamboo with innovation and technology; and also to identify this non-timber forest species with our multicultural background, our native peoples, our territory and our traditions.
