About this app

Son of Neriah, brother of Seraiah, friend and secretary of the prophet Jeremiah (Jer 36:4 ff). Baruch was a learned man of a noble family (Jer 51:59 ff), having faithfully served the prophet. By the instructions of Jeremiah, Baruch wrote down the prophecies of that prophet, communicating them to princes and governors. And one of these was to accuse the scribe and the prophet Jeremiah of treason, showing to the king, as proof of their affirmations, the writings, which they had managed to get hold of. When the king read the documents, his fury was great. He ordered the two to be arrested, but they escaped. After the conquest of Jerusalem by the Babylonians (586 BC), Jeremiah was treated well by King Nebuchadnezzar - and Baruch was accused of exerting influence over Jeremiah in order not to flee to Egypt (Jer 43:3). But in the end they were both compelled to go there with the remnant of Judah (Jer 43:6). During his imprisonment Jeremiah gave Baruch the title to the land that had been purchased from Hanameel (Jer 32:8-12).
