On Golden Island, a piece of land in the middle of the rivers of the Pará Amazon where time seems to obey the rhythm of carimbó, live Juba, a 12-year-old girl raised among river dwellers, curious to the point of irritating (and enchanting) everyone with her questions, and Coty, a muddy-colored mongrel who has been with her forever; no one knows for sure if he is just a dog, or if he holds some of the wisdom of the "enchanted beings" who live in the waters.
Together, the two set out in search of what the elders of the island call Ancestral Knowledge: the secrets that the forest, the rivers, the animals, and the ancients hold about how to live, eat, believe, and sing. With each question answered, a piece of this knowledge is revealed, and Golden Island gradually shows how much it still has to teach.

🐾 Characters

Juba — 12 years old, mischievous, her feet are always bare, and her curiosity never fades. She asks questions before thinking twice. Coty — A mutt the color of clay, with one drooping ear, sniffs out clues, and points out paths with its snout.
