The history of Rydö is constantly updated. The mill has played an important role in the village's identity, but for those who grow up today, life at the mill is something they have been told and their own experiences are often about completely different things. Past and present play a parallel role in the ongoing life.
During an extended stay in the residence Skuggspel - Microstories from Rydö, Johanna Byström Sims spent her time digging in the archives of the Bruksmuseet, where there are exciting sound recordings with voices from the past. There are people who tell about experiences from the mill or sing traditional songs that no one knows anymore. There are also relatives of mill workers who describe an upbringing characterized by the ideals that prevailed during industrialization. On a few occasions, she also met some of the children at Rydö school and became curious about their stories. When the word is free and the children can choose for themselves what they want to tell, it becomes a more open and spreading narrative. Their thoughts model what constitutes tomorrow's history. In this work of art, the new and the old stories are layered upon layer and the fabric that makes up Rydö's soul is glimpsed.
Five story collages are placed in Knystahallsparken. With headphones and a mobile phone, you can experience the children's stories.
