The Hanafuda is a japanese deck of playing cards. Hanafuda cards represent the 12 months of the year with beautiful illustrations, depicting the vegetation and landscape of every season.
Koi-Koi is a classic card game in Japan, in the game, you win by obtaining sets of cards like in Mahjong or Rummy. The name "koi-koi” roughly means "come on" in Japanese, which is said when the player takes the risk to continue the round after obtaining a set.

Ratings and reviews

First time I bought an add free version of a game. Ever. The $12.99 might get a meal for two at McDonald's but probably not. In any case, the game is greatly speeded up now. Of the 30 or so Hanafuda apps I have played, the smooth connection with supposedly "live" players makes this one of the best. If collecting the coins could be a way to increase your player level and if the Oya could deal the cards faster the game would be even better.

At the time of writing, I am still new to Hanafuda but I found it to be very easy to learn. The singleplayer mode teaches you the basics while simultaneously increasing difficulty which pushes you to learn some of the more nuanced and advanced strategies. The app itself is a solid mobile experience with the only advertisements being optional for if you want to double the currency earned at the end of each match. I've experienced no pop-up ads or anything like that.

Great game. From what I've seen, the dev is courteous and diligent. The game teaches you how to play and has a simple interface. The online play is consistent and there are fun rewards. There are some things I'd like to see added, like rematching/befriending online folks and custom rulesets, but it's obviously made with a lot of care and love for the game. If there's one small thing I'd ask for, it's a frog pfp :)
