About this app

ZRobo reads electricity meters through REDZ optical probes.

It is the companion app for the probes we build and sell at
https://probeformeters.com — designed for them specifically, not a general
purpose terminal. If you have a REDZ optical probe, this is the app that
drives it.

WHAT IT DOES

• Reads meters over IEC 62056-21 mode C and shows every line as it arrives
• Saves each reading as a plain .txt file you can share or export
• Connects three ways: Bluetooth SPP, Bluetooth Low Energy, and USB (OTG)
• Reconnects by itself to the probe you used last

WORKING ON THE PROBE ITSELF

• Device settings: read the probe's full status and write settings back
• Module configuration: 38 Bluetooth module parameters, compared against our
standard values so you can see what differs
• Meter line control: baud rate, framing, break, and the power-on default
• Diagnostics: every row is what the device itself reported, with a note
under each value saying what it means
• Battery level
• Firmware update over the air, with a battery check and a recovery path for
a probe left in its bootloader

WHO IT IS FOR

Field technicians and meter operators working with REDZ optical probes.
It is a tool, not a consumer app: it says what the device reported and does
not guess on your behalf.

REQUIREMENTS

• Android 9 or newer
• A REDZ optical probe (KMK118 or KMK119)
• Bluetooth, or a USB OTG cable for the wired probe
• On Android 9-11, Android requires location permission for Bluetooth
scanning; ZRobo does not collect or transmit location

UPGRADING FROM ZRobo 2.x

This installs over the old version as an update. Readings you saved before
are still there.

What’s new

ZRobo 3.0.0 is a complete rewrite of the field app.

• Pages instead of one screen: Devices, Read, Settings, Module, Diagnostics, Firmware
• USB (OTG) alongside Bluetooth, and BLE on probes that offer it
• Device settings and 38 module parameters can be read and written
• Firmware update over the air, with battery and recovery safeguards
• Diagnostics, battery level, automatic connection
• Android 12+ Bluetooth permissions; tablet layout

Readings saved by the previous version are kept.
