About this app

In this tutorial, we first define what we mean by area, and then we calculate the area under a curve by first approximating the area with rectangles and then making the width of the rectangles approach zero.

In the late 1600s, mathematicians discovered a much easier way to calculate the area under a curve, called The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. This discovery started with the calculation of the slope of a tangent.
In the second part of this tutorial, we define the slope of the tangent to a curve, and we look at the connection between areas and tangents.
