PhoneScore is a quick phone test for anyone buying a used or second-hand phone. Run the phone check before you pay and get one simple score out of 100, with a short list of anything that needs a closer look.

CHECK A PHONE BEFORE YOU BUY IT

Holding a used phone in a shop, or meeting a seller? Open PhoneScore, tap Analyze Phone, and follow two short prompts. You get a phone score, a plain status from Excellent to Poor, and the problems listed first.

PhoneScore also shows the phone's model, memory, storage and Android version, so you can compare them with what the seller told you.

WHAT THE PHONE TEST CHECKS

• Battery test: charge cycles and faults the phone reports, where the phone makes them available
• Screen test: five full-screen colours so you can spot dead pixels, lines and uneven patches
• Touch test: a grid over the whole screen finds areas that do not respond
• Speaker test and microphone test: the phone plays tones and listens for them
• Camera test: each camera is turned on to check that it delivers a picture
• Sensor test: motion, rotation and compass sensors are checked for live readings
• Wi-Fi and mobile network check: whether the phone is connected

HONEST RESULTS

PhoneScore only scores what it can actually check.

• If a test could not run, it says "Not tested" instead of guessing
• Missing hardware, such as a phone with no gyroscope, is never counted against the phone
• Refusing a permission is never treated as a broken part
• Many phones do not report battery wear. PhoneScore tells you when that is the case and gives no battery score
• Results that rest on your own answer, such as the screen test, are marked as such

WHAT IT CANNOT TELL YOU

PhoneScore is a quick hardware check, not a full inspection. It cannot see cracks, scratches or water damage, cannot judge photo quality, cannot confirm that parts are original, and cannot tell whether a phone is locked, blacklisted or stolen. Use it alongside your own look at the phone.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• No account, no ads, no tracking
• No internet permission, so nothing the app measures can leave the phone
• The microphone and camera are used only during their tests, and nothing is recorded or saved
• A report is shared only when you tap Share
