About this app

Listen is an auditory training game produced by the University of California Riverside (UCR) Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-being; A research unit focused on brain fitness methods and applications.

Listen integrates principles of perceptual learning and auditory neuroscience in a reward-based game framework that reinforces program adherence and maintains training efficacy. In the game experience, players find themselves in control of a wisp that must navigate through perilous obstacles by responding appropriately to specific sound cues in order to absorb energy from objects in the environment. The sound cues are based upon language primitives and sound features that selectively drive neurons in the auditory cortex of the brain. While at first the sounds are easy to discriminate, the game’s adaptive algorithms measure each players’ ability to discern the sounds and trains players at their individual threshold of performance.

Give it a listen and train your hearing.

It seems like they've fixed the issue with the sound as I was able to play a couple of games. It does ask for a code, but if you click help, it will give you a default code. My problem so far is it froze for a save that never completed, and I had to close the app. I'm definitely willing to hang onto it a bit hoping they'll work out the bugs.

Headed great things about this from The Pulse's coverage, and was very excited since I need this kind of training. However, there was no sound, which obviously defeats the purpose. As soon as I launch the game, my headphones start making a very high pitched sound (barely audible), but there is no other sound. Looked in options for a Test Headphones button or something, but there wasn't anything I could find. For a "sound first" experience, it would be great to have a way to test sound easily.

I cannot hear the noises I am supposed to hear let alone which side it is coming from! its so quiet the instructions keep repeating which is a bit repetitive. Please improve on these points I'd really like to use it. :-)
