About this app

Help scientists monitor changes in glaciers, invaluable resources. Thanks to this app, for the first time you can share your images of glaciers and surrounding environments with researchers. The most useful for monitoring will be published in the glacier album, alongside the historical photos of the Italian Glaciological Committee. Furthermore, in the glacier factsheets, discover their extent and how it will change in the coming decades depending on how many greenhouse gas emissions we manage to avoid.
Glaciers provide us with water, ecosystems, security, landscape, but also the memory of the past climate and environment. The memory of the ice is ours too. We are losing all of this to the climate change we have fueled.
To try to reverse this course we can do something together. We can cut our greenhouse gas emissions. We can participate in monitoring the change already underway and accelerating. We can share stories and images to make everyone understand the urgency of action and the importance of glaciers.
This is why "La Memoria dei Ghiacci" was born, a dissemination, monitoring and awareness project co-financed by the Ministry of University and Research. The project is coordinated by the Ca' Foscari University of Venice Foundation with the collaboration of Forte di Bard, Geoparco Sesia Val Grande, Muse and the support of Karpos, AKU, Polibox, Vaia and Uqido.
