The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has introduced a dedicated recognition scheme for Soil Testing Laboratories engaged in basic soil testing activities. This initiative primarily aims to ensure the quality and reliability of soil testing services accessible to the broader population, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
The scheme operates as an independent quality assurance initiative and is not covered under the APAC & ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRAs). It provides a formal framework to acknowledge laboratories that demonstrate competence and consistency in their testing practices through performance in Proficiency Testing (PT).
Key Highlights of the Scheme: 1. Target Audience: Soil testing laboratories performing basic tests serving villages, small towns, and semi-urban regions.
2. Recognition Basis: Satisfactory performance in Proficiency Testing (PT).
3. Validity: The recognition is granted for a cycle of three years and can be renewed subsequently every three years.
4. Assessment Process: Applications submitted by laboratories will be reviewed by NABL. Recognition will be granted based on demonstrated PT performance.
5. Surveillance: During the three-year recognition period, on-site assessments (surveillance visits) may be carried out to ensure ongoing compliance.
This scheme strengthens quality assurance in soil testing, promotes standardization, and enhances public confidence in the results provided by recognized laboratories.
