About this game

Abyss Researcher is a deep-sea exploration game built around dual-spectrum underwater photography and hydrothermal vent sampling. You pilot a research bathyscaphe into the ocean abyss, using a forward spotlight to reveal creatures hidden in total darkness, then capture them through a precision viewfinder system that demands the correct imaging mode for each species.


The core mechanic separates bioluminescent fauna from vent-dwelling crustaceans: UV mode exposes glowing jellyfish and angler species, while white-light mode documents heat-armored life near mineral chimneys. Frame Lock confirms a valid shot before the shutter fires, turning every encounter into a deliberate research decision rather than a reflex tap.


Six structured missions assign photo quotas, sample targets, and depth milestones under time pressure. Endless Descent scales creature density for high-score runs. Between dives, the Creature Codex unlocks species profiles, Deep Facts delivers field research on vents and bathyscaphe engineering, and achievements track mastery across depth, photography, and pristine hull survival.
