About this app

Strangefield puts you where the world's most famous Bigfoot sightings, cryptid encounters and UFO sightings happened, in real first-person 3D, and hands you a camera. Not a rifle. Stand on the gravel bar at Bluff Creek where the 1967 Bigfoot film was shot, watch the encounter play out as it was reported, and try to get the photograph the witnesses never quite got. Then switch on The Other Story and see the same moment the other way.

The Bluff Creek Bigfoot sighting is free, complete, forever. Twenty more cases come in five one-time bands. No subscription, no ads, no account, and it works offline.

WALK THE BIGFOOT SIGHTING AT BLUFF CREEK
The Bigfoot sighting of 20 October 1967, on real terrain from US elevation data. Two riders round a log-jam; a dark figure walks across the creek bar, looks back once, and is gone. Walk the Bigfoot track line, stand where the Bigfoot film camera ran, judge the height yourself, then rise into the sky and see the whole creek from the air.

PHOTOGRAPH WHAT THEY SAW
The camera is the game, and Bigfoot is the first shot. Raise it, zoom with a period lens, and shoot during the sighting. Every Bigfoot, cryptid and UFO photo is rated from zero to three stars: in frame, how big, the right moment, a steady hand. Blurry long shots earn the community's own word for them: Blobsquatch. At night, hold still for the long exposure. Your photos go to a darkroom inside the app, and you can save them to your phone or share them with a link to the case.

EVERY PHOTO IS MARKED
Every exported photo carries a burned-in footer: Strangefield, 3D reconstruction, the place and the year. It never comes off. A 3D Bigfoot is fun to shoot; it should never be passed off as a real one.

THE OTHER STORY
Every case has the leading ordinary explanation, rendered with the same care. The Rendlesham Forest lights beside the Orfordness lighthouse on its true bearing. A barn owl and a sandhill crane in the Mothman's headlights. The Roswell debris field beside a Project Mogul balloon train. A man in a fur suit on the Bigfoot track line. Strangefield never tells you which is true. It gives you the ground, the distance and the light, and lets you look.

21 CASES, FIVE BANDS
Cryptids of America: the Mothman in the TNT area at Point Pleasant, the Flatwoods Monster, the Ape Canyon cabin, the Chupacabra in Puerto Rico.
Lake and Mountain: the Loch Ness Monster from Urquhart Bay, the Yeti tracks on the Menlung Glacier, Champ in Lake Champlain.
Close Encounters: Roswell, Socorro, the Kecksburg acorn, the Rendlesham Forest UFO sighting, Varginha, and Fatima.
The Wessex Formations: stand inside five of the most famous crop circles in Wiltshire and Hampshire, then rise and see each from the sky.
Down Under: the Yowie and the Bunyip, with their Aboriginal sources first.

REPORTED, OR EXPLAINED?
Every card is tagged Reported, Investigated, Explained or Folklore, and every case lists its published sources. No invented sightings, no "real footage".

A GAME WITH A CASE FILE
Each case opens with a short story, then hands you the walk. Arrive, witness the encounter, photograph it, open every piece of evidence, photograph The Other Story, and see it from the air to close the case. Chase three stars on every Bigfoot sighting, cryptid and UFO sighting; there is a secret for anyone who does.

BUILT LIKE A FIELD RECEIVER
Tune a dial to pick a station, pull out the darkroom for your photos, turn it round for settings. Nine languages. Sound you can switch off. No account and nothing uploaded.

WHY STRANGEFIELD
The old Bigfoot map apps went dark when their servers did, and the 3D Bigfoot games are Bigfoot hunting games full of ads. Strangefield has no server to go stale: every case ships inside the app and works offline, for good. Looking for a Bigfoot tracker, a Bigfoot finder or a UFO sightings map? Here is where they happened.

What’s new

• Socorro's craft is where you can actually photograph it, and Ape Canyon has a lamp to see the apemen by — both cases asked for a photograph you could not take.
• Varginha is the overcast afternoon after heavy rain it always described, and the being walks away instead of vanishing on the spot.
• The horses, dogs and deer have their own colours again.
• Fátima has been withdrawn: twenty cases, and five in Close Encounters.
