About this app

MatteID makes a passport or ID photograph on your phone, measures it against the requirements the issuing authority published, and tells you plainly what it could not check.

MatteID is not a government app. Aether Syntax is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for any government, passport office or embassy, and MatteID does not submit applications.

Your photograph never leaves the device. There is no account and no sign-in. Finding your face, measuring it, cropping and replacing the background all happen on the phone. The only time MatteID uses the internet is to buy photo credits.

WHAT IT DOES

• 285 document templates across 102 countries and territories — passports, national ID cards, visas and residence permits.
• Frames automatically to the head height the document specifies, in millimetres, and names the published rule it applied.
• Replaces the background with the required colour, and tells you what that authority has published about edited photographs.
• Checks sharpness, exposure, head position, eye line, background, pixel dimensions, file format, file size and resolution.
• Prints as an A4 or 4×6 sheet, measured to size.
• Speaks 70 languages, and lays the interface out right-to-left where the script does.

WHAT IT DOES NOT PROMISE

MatteID cannot guarantee that any photograph will be accepted. Acceptance is decided by the issuing authority, which may apply judgement, local practice, or requirements it has not published. When a check passes, it passed MatteID's own check — nothing more.

Each document links to its issuing authority's official website. Where a requirement was read from an official publication, the app links to it and shows the date it was read; where it comes from a table compiled for MatteID instead, the app says so. Confirm the requirements with the issuing authority before you submit.

PRIVACY

No account, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no tracking. No photograph, face measurement or part of an image is sent anywhere. The saved file carries no location, time, camera model or software name.

PRICING

Taking and checking a photograph is free. Saving or printing a finished photograph uses one credit. Credits are sold in packs, do not expire, and are not a subscription. A failed export costs nothing.

MatteID is made by Aether Syntax.
