About this app

Gopher is a long-lasting technology that in its heyday was touted as a plausible alternative to the World Wide Web. Content is accessed using a simple, text-based protocol detailed in IETF RFC 1436.

Nowadays, a small group of servers are maintained by hobbyists and educational organisations. There's still a lot to see and experience! You just need to dig a bit :)

Thus, DiggieDog is a Gopher client for Android.

Sorely needs an update. -Can't enter paths when entering URLs. -Hamburger menu is hidden by back button -Home and bookmark buttons simply add or change bookmark or home gopher. The only way to access them is the hidden hamburger menu. -No dark mode. Bookmarks and home are great, but they're nearly rendered useless outside of the startup page.

Lacks a way to enter a direct gopher URL: accepts host addresses only, no paths or documents. Lacks a way to edit bookmarks. Lacks a way to search inside a document. Other than that: pretty fast and stable.

I love this and have been using it for nine months on an almost daily basis to explore Gopherspace and keep up on the "phlogs". The only thing I'm really missing is a "dark/night mode" (with white text on black background, or similar). I don't know if it would be worth the extra effort to set up a "PRO" version, but I, for one, would happily pay to help fund additional features. (I'm all too aware that time, not money, is the real limiting factor for any labor of love.) Thanks for creating this!

What's new

Updated app to target a more recent version of Android.

Removed Crashlytics, since the old Fabric Crashlytics is gone and I don't want to bring in Firebase.
