About this app

Afinora is a practice room for string players. It starts as a real-time tuner and carries on into everything you do once the strings are in tune: drilling a scale against the click and being told which notes landed, and recording yourself over a backing track to hear what actually came out.

TUNER
• Real-time pitch detection, processed on the device
• 10 instruments: guitar, 7-string guitar, bass, ukulele, Venezuelan cuatro, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, banjo
• Over 30 standard and alternate tunings, plus tunings you build yourself
• A reference tone on any string, and six A4 references from 432 to 442 Hz

TECHNIQUE TRAINING
This is the part that listens back. Pick a scale shape, set a tempo, and play it against the metronome. Afinora grades every single note as it arrives: clean, late, or missed. Not a score at the end of the song — a verdict per note, so you can see that it is always the same two notes of the shape that you rush.
• Pitch and timing measured separately, so you know which one failed
• Built-in scale patterns, or import your own exercise from plain text
• Loops that raise the tempo on their own as you keep up
• A history per scale, so progress is a number and not a feeling

STUDIO
• Import a backing track, mark a section, loop it and slow it down
• Record yourself over it, as audio or as video
• Save takes to your gallery or share them

WORKS WITH A USB AUDIO INTERFACE
Plug your instrument in and every note reads exactly. A wired signal is what makes note-by-note grading trustworthy: an unamplified electric is not a signal a detector can read reliably, and a room microphone drops notes as soon as there is noise. Afinora detects the interface, compensates its latency, and tells you it is connected.
Tested with the Fender Mustang Micro Plus, and works with other compatible USB audio interfaces. Acoustic instruments can train through the phone microphone instead.

METRONOME
• An audio engine that does not drift
• 30-300 BPM with tap tempo
• Time signatures from 2/4 to 12/8, subdivisions down to sixteenths
• Accent or mute any beat of the bar with a tap

CHORDS AND SCALES
• 20 scales and 20 chords, drawn on the neck of your instrument in your tuning
• The whole neck of your instrument, up to 24 frets, with a fullscreen view
• Notes or degrees, and chord voicings including barre shapes
• The chords that belong to the key you are looking at

EAR TRAINING
• Notes and intervals, answered on your real instrument rather than by tapping a button

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No account, no ads, no tracking. Audio used for tuning and training is analysed on the device as it arrives and is never recorded or uploaded. Studio recordings stay on your phone unless you share them yourself.
