Track what your business spends, in one place, without the accounting.
MAAK is for a small business run by one person — a handyman, a contractor, a cleaner, a landscaper, a driver. It is not for an accounting department, and it does not expect you to learn bookkeeping to use it.
Connect your cards, your bank accounts and your investment accounts. MAAK pulls everything in, sorts the work spending from the personal, matches your receipts to it, and keeps a profit and loss that is up to date today — not in April.
WHAT YOU GET
- Every business expense tracked, from the bank feed or typed in by hand.
- Cards, bank accounts and investment accounts in one list, kept in step.
- Deductions caught as they happen, not hunted for a year later.
- Profit and loss, always up to date. Money in, money out, what is left.
- Costs sorted for you. Fix one and it remembers next time.
- Snap a receipt with your phone. It reads it, matches it to the payment, and files it. No typing.
- Miles tracked at the current IRS rate.
- Quarterly tax estimates worked out for you — what to put aside, what to send the IRS, and by when. The bill is never a surprise.
- Invoices and estimates you can send from the job, and a list of who has not paid yet.
- Everything exports to Excel, or straight to whoever does your return.
NO ACCOUNTING WORDS
There are no ledgers to balance, no debits and credits, and nothing to close at month end. You look at a list of what you spent and tap "business" or "personal". That is the whole job, and MAAK does most of it for you.
WHY THE NUMBERS CAN BE TRUSTED
- A meal with a customer counts for half, not all of it. That is the rule, and getting it wrong is the most common mistake there is.
- Money refunded to you reduces what that job cost. It is not income.
- Moving your own money between your own accounts is not income either, and it never reaches your figures.
- A big purchase like a van or a machine is held back for a second look, because those are not treated the same as a box of screws.
Every one of those is covered by a test that runs before each release.
WHEN TAX TIME COMES
Everything is already in the right place. MAAK fills in the form the IRS wants from self-employed people — Schedule C — with the line number shown beside each figure, so you or your preparer can check any number against the form in seconds. Hand it over and you are done.
WHAT IT WILL NOT DO
It will not file your return for you, and it is not tax advice. It works out the figures and shows you how each one was reached, so that you — or the person who signs your return — can check them.
PRIVACY
This app never sees your bank login. The connection is made by Plaid, and what it hands back is encrypted before it is stored. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, or from the web without installing anything at all.
