Keyhole is the black stories game — the dark story riddles a table of friends has passed around for decades — built for a phone. Every case is a murder mystery, a whodunit or a vanishing told in three lines, and the only way through it is lateral thinking: question after question, yes or no, until the one detail that explains everything comes into view.

THE DAILY CASE

One free case a day, the same for everyone. Interrogate the file, accuse before you flip, then see where you placed on the day's table and whether you beat par. Solve it every day and your streak grows; miss one and the archive gives you a way to mend it. Share the result as a line of squares — how it went, never what it was — so no case is ever spoiled.

Alone: work the case like a detective. Spend your questions well, race the clock, or take on a rival who is better at this than you are.

One phone, passed around: the classic party game. Hand the file on, run a table, put a friend in the witness stand and answer their yes-or-no questions the way a host does at a dinner.

Everyone on their own phone: real multiplayer. One player opens a room, the rest join with a six-letter code from anywhere — the same lineup on every screen, a royale of riddles, squads, duels, a tournament bracket, or a case played by post over two days when nobody is awake at the same time.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

Every case is rated, and so are you. Solve one under par and your rating moves; the case's moves too, because how hard a mystery really is only shows once people have tried it.

The app can host. In The House it answers a room's questions on the facts of the story and rules on an accusation made in your own words — so a table can play with nobody who already knows the answer.

Nothing is spoiled by accident. The illustrations never draw the answer, a share carries counters and squares, and a case someone at the table has already seen is never dealt to them again.
