Aker Topphåndball was founded on 21 April 2016 based on a joint agreement between Njård IL and Ullern IF. The mother clubs agreed to unite their elite teams on handball in a new club so that the parent clubs' handball efforts can focus on children, youth and adults in lower divisions.
In its first season, 2016/17, the club has taken over Njård's team / place in the 1st division women, and correspondingly Ullern's team / place in the 2nd division women. In addition, the club has junior elite / J18 with a focus on the Leroy series.
