Altervault is an encrypted photo vault. Lock private photos, videos and files behind your own code, on your phone, with no account and nothing uploaded to any cloud.
Most photo vaults hide your pictures behind a PIN and leave the files themselves readable, or keep them on a server where somebody else holds the key. This one encrypts every file on the device before it is written, and there is no server to send anything to.
WHAT IT DOES
• Encrypted storage — every photo, video and document is sealed with XChaCha20-Poly1305 before it touches the disk. Thumbnails, filenames and dates are encrypted too, because that is exactly the information a hidden gallery is meant to protect.
• Your code is the key — it is stretched with Argon2id and never stored anywhere. Nobody can reset it for you, and nobody can read your vault without it.
• A fake gallery — a second, ordinary-looking photo gallery you can switch to in an instant. Hand your phone over and there is nothing to notice: the same app, the same layout, the same everything.
• Locked with your own code — a PIN or an emoji code, with a lockout that gets longer after every wrong attempt.
• No cloud, no account, no tracking — nothing to sign up for, no analytics, no ads, and no server we control. The only request this app ever makes is the purchase.
• Screenshots are blocked while you are looking at something, and the app shows nothing in the recent apps list.
• Export any time — take photos, videos and files back out at full original quality, one at a time or many at once. Nothing is locked in.
• Encrypted backup — save the whole vault as a single .vault file you can keep somewhere safe, and restore it later on any device.
• A twelve-word recovery phrase, written down once, in case you forget your code.
• Dark and light, and it works with no connection at all.
