About this app

Managed by the Cotentin Cetacean and English Channel Marine Mammal Study Group (GECC), OBSenMER is a free, collaborative digital platform that enables the collection, storage, and sharing of observations at sea.
OBSenMER includes:
• a smartphone and tablet app,
• a database hosted on a remote server,
• a website for querying and configuring the database from any computer,
• a tool to assist with the photo-identification of marine megafauna.
WHAT OBSERVATIONS CAN IT COVER?
It covers all types of observations: marine mammals, fish, turtles, birds, and other marine species, as well as human activities such as shipping, fishing, pollution, etc.
WHO CAN IT USE IT?
Developed to encourage citizen science, it allows citizens, associations, researchers, and professionals to contribute to the protection and sustainable management of the marine environment.

Two modes of use are available:

- an expert mode accessible to scientists and naturalist organizations, adaptable to their research protocols
- a public mode, accessible to all users of the marine environment, online or via smartphone, to contribute to the collection of data from one-off observations or research projects

The observations are then shared with a network of experts, associations, and environmental managers!
