About this app
Potto is one account for learning Japanese and living in Japan: thirteen apps that share your level, your progress and your language, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android and the web, in 95 interface languages.
LEARN JAPANESE, N5 TO N1
20,873 learnables cover vocabulary, grammar and kanji across every JLPT level. Each entry carries readings, senses, pitch accent, etymology and keigo registers, cross-checked against reference dictionaries with citations. Kanji show radicals, stroke counts and the readings that actually appear in words. 1,376 lessons and 97 journeys turn those entries into a path: take the placement test, get a level, and follow the next lesson the app puts in front of you. Flashcards, questions and 564 counters fill the gaps a textbook skips, like which word to use at the register.
PLAY YOUR WAY TO FLUENCY
Shiritori against the app in Japanese or English, with a fifteen-second clock and every word you play scored. Crosswords, quizzes and a counter game that runs with no account at all.
COOK FROM THE SOURCE
Recipes painted in mineral pigment on washi, each with the numbers a cook needs: servings, prep and cook time, difficulty, metric, US and Japanese measures. Cooking mode reads one step at a time with timers running and voice control for messy hands. A growing calendar shows what to sow and harvest in your climate zone this month, and a shopping list and pantry follow your recipes.
